Message of mr.Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Prime Minister of Pakistan

PAKISTAN INTERNATIONAL MARITIME EXPO AND CONFERENCE

I am happy to learn that the Ministry of Maritime Affairs is going to arrange the premiere edition of Pakistan International Maritime Expo & Conference (PIMEC) 2023 in collaboration with Pakistan Navy. It was in June 2012 that the idea of marine economy was conceived at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development held in Rio de Janeiro.

The Conference was a gigantic step forward in the sense that it developed a consensus on the efficacy and role of the Green Economy in overcoming the challenge of poverty eradication and ensuring sustainable development. The blue element of the Green Economy concept does not just represent an approach to conserve oceans but also offers massive opportunities to reap their benefits.

This Exhibition, I am confident, will showcase the rich potential of Pakistan’s maritime sector with an aim to draw attention towards maritime industry’s contribution towards Blue Ocean economy and in raising maritime awareness amongst the general populace. PIMEC is a manifestation of Pakistan’s maritime capabilities in diverse fields including ports and shipping with a focus on marine related commercial enterprises.

I am sure that the event would provide an interactive platform to showcase maritime products and more importantly for sharing of ideas among the participants, thus opening a new door for contracting, outsourcing, joint venturing and the signing of MoUs for technical collaboration with national and international partners.

The Exhibition would not only help build mutually beneficially partnerships but also bring the international community together in the pursuit of shared prosperity by leveraging the potential of maritime industry. I am glad that over the years, PIMEC has emerged as a wonderful platform for the participating countries and their companies to expand the collaboration through strategic business models.

The role of port cities, such as Karachi and Gwadar, is pivotal to Pakistan’s economic progress. Not only will the development of ports have a major role to play in future, but would also be central to fruition of the upcoming projects and developments in the maritime industry. The Government is fully determined to work with other friendly countries and stakeholders to strengthen our maritime industry. We are

working toward the introduction and up-gradation of modern techniques and processes in the way port handling and shipping are done in Pakistan.

On this occasion, I would like to convey my deep appreciation to all the stakeholders, especially Pakistan Navy for taking this initiative under the auspices of Ministry of Maritime Affairs to showcase Pakistan’s maritime potential to the world.
